Noticing Changes In How You Move?
What is Parkinson's disease?
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurological disorder that affects movement. It develops when nerve cells in a part of the brain called the substantia nigra become damaged or die, reducing the brain's supply of dopamine, a chemical messenger that helps control smooth, coordinated muscle movement.
PD is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's, and it typically develops gradually, often starting with a subtle tremor in one hand.
